All About Eyes - Pixiwoo Greyscale Inspired

Hello, lovelies!

Firstly, I've decided to change titles from EOTD to All About Eyes as I feel that EOTD is a bit misleading. I do these looks whenever I'm inspired or bored and I don't actually go out with that look on, so the "TD" part of "EOTD" doesn't necessarily apply.

Why don't I step out wearing these looks? Well:
a. I typically do 2 looks at a time.
b. I mostly only do the left eye because I'm too lazy to do both and the right eye is a downright pain to photograph (I seemed to have lucked out with one or two looks and was able to photograph the right eye properly; but after that, no such luck).
c. Not all the looks I do will be "wearable."

Now that we have that out of the way... I was inspired by one of my favourite YouTube makeup artists, Pixiwoo, after having seen Sam Chapman's Greyscale tutorial; so I reached for my eyeshadows and got to work. I opted for a more winged out look as opposed to the subtler winged out shape Sam created in her tutorial. Other than that, I tried to stay true to the eyeshadow colours chosen for this look.

Again, let me preface this with the usual disclaimer: i'm not a makeup artist, just a makeup enthusiast :).

Products Used:

Urban Decay Primer Potion

Sleek MakeUP i-Divine Palette (Original & Storm)

MAC Eyeshadow (Knight Divine & Deep Truth)

To start off, I applied the UDPP all over the lid. Then, I packed on some Knight Divine and a grey shade from the Sleek palette all over the lid up to the brow bone. This combination was also applied to the lower lash line. Then I used a champagne coloured eyeshadow to blend out the edges. As I blended out, I pushed the brush outwards and upwards to create a winged out look. Then I applied some green eye shadow from the Sleek palette to the inner corner of the lid and layered MAC Deep Truth eyeshadow to the outer corner. After that, I lightly brushed some metallic light blue to the lower lash line (on top of the grey eyeshadow combination). To finish, I lined the top and bottom lash lines with a matte black eyeshadow from the Sleek palette. Of course, you can choose to apply mascara or use falsies like Sam did. I simply forgot to use mascara and I don't have any falsies at hand.

How beautiful are these products? I especially love the ones from Guerlain. However, if I do buy products like these, I'd feel bad for using them and probably just end up staring at them. 

I think I'd eventually crack and take a swipe though. Makeup is meant to be used after all! So I want to know:

Sleek MakeUP Palette - Sunset & Circus

Two more Sleek MakeUP Palettes = YEY!

For those who don't know, you can purchase these palettes (and other products) at Sleek MakeUP's website. This time around, I bought the Sunset & Circus palette, the latter being a limited edition palette. I didn't want to miss out on this product; I've learned my lesson after the whole Stereo Rose debacle (it still hurts).

Anyway, first up:

CIRCUS

As you can see, there are some fantastic colours in this palette. Of course, there's your standard matte black; but there are really vibrant shades as well. This palette has more matte eyeshadows than my other palettes (original & storm. click here for a review on both) and some of them are actually quite sheer. I was taken aback by how sheer they were, to tell you the truth. I was disappointed at first, since I was expecting the vibrancy Sleek palettes are so known for. But I think in order to have a well-rounded collection of shades, you need to have a variety of textures and finishes. 

If I had purchased a MAC eyeshadow for $16.00 CAD that was exactly like the lavender shade (beside the black eyeshadow), I would've wholly disappointed and would probably return it. But since you're purchasing 12 eyeshadows for $10 USD, it's pretty worth it. The sheer shades are nice colours, you just need to put in a little bit more effort (and eyeshadow primer) and you're good to go. Like I said, it's always good to have a variety in your beauty arsenal. Besides, the blue shade right next to the orange is such a stand out colour, it automatically makes this palette a must-have.

By the way, love the bright red packaging!

SUNSET

Another lovely palette from Sleek; but alas, no product is perfect. But let's get to that later.

Firstly, like most Sleek eyeshadows, you've got some very vibrant, well pigmented eyeshadows. There are some amazing shades that fall within the bronze category and they've all got a bit of a metallic sheen. Not glittery, but definitely shimmery. You do experience some slight fall down but what's surprising is how little there is when you consider how soft the texture of these shadows are. 

I do love this palette, but I have one gripe: there are at least 3 eyeshadows that are far too similar in colour to my liking. If you see my previous post, you'll see that I swatched the same 3 colours at least 4 times. What happened was, I kept forgetting which shade I was going to use and I didn't want to end up ruining the look I was going for by picking the wrong shade (I can be very particular). Also, the orange shade is gorgeous, but stubborn. You'll need to wash your brush thoroughly to get every last bit of pigment out. I suggest not using a brush with white bristles if you're like me and don't want your brushes to get permanently stained.

Aside from that, this palette is fantastic!  

Of course, the moment I got these in the mail (fast shipping, by the way. I'm impressed, Sleek) I started playing around with them.

EOTD - Blues & Purples

First of all, a big, huge HELLO to everyone who's following my blog! Call It Beauty is officially 1 month old and I'm so glad that I can celebrate it with you lovelies!

So, off to our EOTD. Today, we've got a blue and purple look courtesy of the Sleek MakeUP i-Divine Palettes (Original & Storm, to be precise). I used the following colours:

And here's the look:

Firstly, my apologies for the crap photos/lighting. I blame it on bad lighting (ikea lamp), an old-ish camera (sony cybershot from 2007), inspiration hitting at night, and my poor photo taking skillz.

Anyway, this look is pretty simple: I started off with the light, electric blue colour all over the lid, past the crease and to the brow bone. Then I applied the purple shade in the outer corner and on the brown bone, blending it towards the inner corner. I also applied the purple onto the outer half of the lower lash line. Next, I applied the dark blue shade just at the outer corner and blended it out very well. Then, I swiped some electric blue on the inner half of the lower lash line. I finished it off with some matte black eyeshadow to line the entire upper lash line and the outer half of the lower lash line. Normally, I would've applied mascara to both top and bottom lashes, but... I forgot. Like I said, it was late!

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick - Review

Was anybody else super excited when info about Revlon Colorburst Lipstick came out? 

I was at first, but it was a while before they were actually released in Canada and I must admit, I forgot about it for a while. So imagine my surprise when I saw them displayed in London Drugs about a month ago! I may or may not have squealed out loud and since no one can verify this as fact...

Truthfully, I was a bit disappointed with the shade selection. There were far too many colours that are similar to each other and some shades, well... I just wasn't excited about them. However, I did pick up two colours that I was very happy with: Fuschia and Lilac (which is a tad dark to be truly called "lilac," I think).

The packaging is pretty cute. It doesn't feel very sturdy because it feels very much like plastic, but the quilting design is quite chic. Also, as you can see from the photo above, the shade of the lipstick is shown on the top of the tube and believe it or not, it's very accurate. You know how you see swatches on a website or on the display and make your purchase based off of that only to find the shade of the product itself is way, way off? Yeah, you're not getting that with this lipstick. Call me lame, but I think that's exciting!

The pigmentation is pretty amazing. I remember doing an 80s competitive piece a year ago and was looking around for a bright pink lipstick (a cheap one, since I wasn't going to wear it often) and couldn't find any. You came a year too late, Colorburst. But it's ok, I still like you.

One thing to note though is that although this lipstick feels creamy when applied, it can actually be a bit drying. So applying lip balm first or layering lip gloss after would be a good idea. Staying power is pretty good. I was able to wear it for at least 4 hours without much fading, but that's without eating or drinking. I don't know if that will be an issue for others; it isn't for me, since re-applying lipstick is easy enough to do.

All in all, a pretty great product and I recommend it if you want an inexpensive lipstick that is wonderfully pigmented and wears well. I still have my eye on a few shades, namely: carnation, soft nude, peach, ruby, and true red. I'll be sure to swatch those for you when I have them.
